Rich’s Blog: The evolution of communication – everyone gets a voice

A very nicely written article regarding the evolving of communication by ReadWrite web: [www.readwriteweb.com] We barely have time to pause and reflect these days on how far communications technology has progressed. Without even taking a deep breath, we've transitioned from email to chat to blogs to social networks and more recently to Twitter. Here is my representation of the current ecosystem, which we will explore in this post…. This post covers email – IM – twitter – Secondlife – and beyond ! … read the rest here ! Rich’s Blog: A new-old emersive way to compute, manage digital information – surface computing

Microsoft announced their "Surface Computing" initiative a few minutes ago: [www.microsoft.com] Very interesting – would seem to have implications for schools if hardware makers and the markets swing that way some day. Cool stuff – wondering what this does to the large crystal and LCD monitor market? — seems like a large enough digital "surface" could be pricey ! check it out here: [www.microsoft.com] =======

Rich’s Blog: Overcoming the fear of failure – failing as the path to success

A great article from Lifehack.org: [www.lifehack.org] "To meet with an error is not to fail, but to take one more step on the path to final success" via lifehack.org ==== Trial and error are usually the prime means of solving lifeÂ’s problems. Yet many people are afraid to undertake the trial because theyÂ’re too afraid of experiencing the error. They make the mistake of believing that all error is wrong and harmful, when most of it is both helpful and necessary. Error provides the feedback that points the way to success. Only error pushes people to put together a new and better trial, leading through yet more errors and trials until they can ultimately find a viable and creative solution. ==== Read the full text here: [www.lifehack.org]

Rich’s Blog: GreenbushTV discussion – next steps we have discussed

GreenbushTV discussion – next steps we have discussed — Next step is to develop a weekly guide of live streaming events (w/ rss feed so people can subscribe to our "GreenbushTV Guide") — so people will know when/what is being streamed…. working on a text scrolls and embedding the video, so when people watch events – text (or even banner images) will scrolls advertising business partners/other GB events —– each day live streaming events will be announced in Secondlife as well so that that community is aware of our live streaming events and can participate. —– Other things we are thinking (1) Getting IDL cameras in the podroom (working on) (2) Getting IDL Cameras in the computer labs (3) GreenbsuhTV in Secondlife (once voice is enabled) — as virtual IDL classes. Pretty much— if they are in front of an…

Rich’s Blog: A few things going on my radar – CTC data integration

A few things going on my radar – CTC data integration with * Using the Twitter API to communicate CTC worksheet creation/info held to subscribers * Integrating CTC data into swivel.com looking at Swivel.com …. signed up for their API (Application Programming Interface)— that would automate our ability to shoot the data over there (a mashup basically) so people could combine it with other data for their own custom charts …… the API is in beta still so they select who can use it ….. Ill keep you posted

Rich’s Blog: Greenbush TV notes :: Placing IDL content on a prim in Secondlife

To get IDL content on a prim in secondlife: 1) Install Quicktime Broadcaster Applications on the machine in the IDL that is serving the IDL cameras to the web. 2) Take that stream – pipe it to the prim serving as the video source Possible scalable issues: 1) Bandwidth (can only stream so many sources at once) 2) We could add new machines to handle more users to a point Ultimate goal: * Bring IDL content into Secondlife in a scalable fashion. * Billboards in secondlife to serve as the "GreenbushTV Guide" – what is being streamed and when.

Rich’s Blog: Learning 2.0 — http://tutorom.com

In their own words: [tutorom.com] Learn, Create and Collaborate Create your own content. Share educational resources. Collaborate with colleagues and show your knowledge to the world AND share the advertising revenues. As previewed by : [mashable.com] One good thing about Tutorom is the control a teacher can have over their courses and subsequent lessons. Their marketplace operates in a similar fashion to WizIQ in that students and teachers are meeting each other in a self-regulated environment. As Tutorom offers lessons in several formats, such as video, it would be great if they could indicate which lessons are in these different formats, and searchable by these formats as well. IÂ’m also surprised that Tutorom doesnÂ’t have a system in place to enable the best-rated teachers to become chartered members, signaling other users of their trusted status on the site. Check out…

Rich’s Blog: When 3 paths converge – the Ultimate Educational Mashup – Moodle/Secondlife/UStream.tv

When 3 paths converge – the Ultimate Educational Mashup – Moodle/Secondlife/UStream I am starting to think a bit about what could be a REALLY cool school and education mashup —- Moodle/Secondlife/UStream — there is a project called Sloodle (slecondlife moodle integration) that Brian Boore and I have been talking/email regarding the Sloodle project and figuring a way to integrate it into our Secondlife Island. In the words of one of the Lindens themself "One of the things that IÂ’m most excited about is a mashup between Second Life and the learning management system, Moodle. Its called Sloodle." – Joe Miller, VP Platform, Linden Lab a link on getting invloved: [www.sloodle.com] ========== Quick though – user clicks a "prim" – enrolls into course – those users added to a Secondlife Group – seam avatar with student info – pass them the…
